South Tampa, Ballast Point, Davis Islands, Bayshore Beautiful, West Tampa near the Hillsborough River, and much of the waterfront are highest-risk. Tampa Bay is considered one of the most vulnerable locations in the U.S. for major hurricane storm surge. A direct hit from a major hurricane could produce 15–20+ feet of surge in coastal areas. FEMA flood maps don't fully capture surge risk, which is why elevation is especially important for Tampa properties.
